Leeds United travel to the south coast looking to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they face Brighton at the Amex. After picking up four points from their opening two games, including an impressive away win at Nottingham Forest and a late 1-1 draw with Brentford, Daniel Farke’s side will be full of confidence heading into another difficult test.
The Whites showed plenty of character against Brentford, fighting back after falling behind to earn a point through Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, Leeds will know they need to start better this weekend. Brighton are a side capable of controlling possession and creating chances, so Leeds will have to be organised defensively while remaining dangerous on the counter-attack.
Calvert-Lewin will once again be one of the main threats for Leeds. After finding the net against Brentford, the striker will be hoping to continue his good start and cause problems for the Brighton defence. Leeds will need to get plenty of quality balls into the box and make the most of any opportunities that come their way.
There is also a concern at the back following Joe Rodon’s injury, which leaves Farke with an important decision to make in central defence. Whoever comes into the team will face a tough afternoon against Brighton’s attacking players and will need to be at their best.
Despite the challenges, there is plenty of reason for Leeds supporters to be optimistic. The Whites have already shown they can win away from home this season and have demonstrated the resilience needed to pick up points when things do not go their way. If Leeds can match Brighton’s intensity and take their chances, there is no reason why they cannot leave the Amex with another positive result.
From a Leeds perspective, this is a chance to make another statement after returning to the Premier League. A point would be a respectable result, but the confidence within the squad means Leeds should believe they can go one better and take all three points. Prediction: Brighton 1-2 Leeds United.
