Leeds United return to Elland Road this weekend for the first home game of the 2026/27 Premier League season, with Brentford the visitors on Sunday 30 August. After a winning start away from home, Daniel Farke’s side will be looking to make home advantage count and give the Elland Road faithful something to celebrate in the first league game back at LS11.
Leeds could hardly have asked for a better start to the new campaign. Anton Stach’s late free-kick secured a 1-0 victory away at Nottingham Forest, giving the Whites three valuable points and a clean sheet on the opening weekend. The performance showed plenty of defensive resilience, while new arrivals James Trafford, Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson all made positive impressions in their first competitive outing for the club.
Now, however, comes a completely different challenge. Brentford arrive in Yorkshire full of confidence after dismantling Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in their opening fixture. Keith Andrews’ side were aggressive, organised and clinical, with Vitaly Janelt, Keane Lewis-Potter and Michael Kayode among those making the difference. Igor Thiago also remains a major threat up front despite missing a penalty in the victory.
That result should ensure Leeds are under no illusions about the task ahead. Brentford have shown that they can punish teams that give them space, and Leeds will need to be much more threatening in possession while maintaining the defensive discipline that earned them victory at Forest.
For Leeds, the biggest weapon could once again be Elland Road. The atmosphere is likely to be electric as supporters welcome Premier League football back to LS11, and Farke will want his side to start quickly, put Brentford under pressure and make the most of the home crowd.
There is also the opportunity to build early momentum. Six points from the opening two matches would represent an excellent start for Leeds, particularly with a difficult Premier League season ahead. The victory at Forest has already provided confidence, but a strong performance against Brentford would offer an even clearer indication that this Leeds side is ready to compete.
The Whites will need to be aggressive without becoming reckless. Brentford have already demonstrated their attacking quality, but Leeds have their own threats, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin capable of causing problems in the box and Harry Wilson providing another creative option.
This should be a fascinating battle between two sides who have already shown plenty of promise. Brentford will arrive believing they can spoil Leeds’ homecoming, but with a packed Elland Road behind them, Farke’s men have every reason to believe they can make it two wins from two.
The Premier League is back at Elland Road. The atmosphere will be loud, the expectation will be high, and Leeds have the perfect opportunity to start their home campaign with a statement.
