PREDICTION: AFC BOURNEMOUTH 1-2 LEEDS UNITED
Bournemouth host Leeds United on Wednesday night in a fixture that carries real significance at both ends of the lower half of the table.
Leeds arrive on the south coast in buoyant mood after their convincing 3–0 win over Wolves, a result that pushed them eight points clear of the relegation zone. With the gap to 14th-placed Newcastle now just three points, the picture has shifted quickly for Leeds — survival remains the priority, but there’s a growing sense they could yet climb into a more comfortable mid-table position.
Daniel Farke’s side will be looking to build on that momentum, particularly the attacking sharpness they showed last time out. Noah Okafor is the obvious danger man, having hit five goals in his last five games, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be eager to carry on from his late penalty and overall lively display. Leeds also showed they can produce moments of real quality, highlighted by James Justin’s stunning opener at Elland Road.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, will see this as a chance to halt Leeds’ progress and strengthen their own position. Playing at home, they’ll look to impose themselves early and test a Leeds side that has at times been inconsistent on the road. The Cherries know that a win here would not only boost their own tally but also drag Leeds back into the pack.
The key battle could lie in midfield, where control of tempo will be crucial. If Leeds can replicate the intensity and quick-starting approach they showed against Wolves, they have the tools to trouble Bournemouth. However, if the hosts can disrupt that rhythm and make it a more physical, stop-start contest, it may swing in their favour.
With both sides eyeing breathing room rather than looking nervously over their shoulders, this has the feel of a pivotal midweek encounter. For Leeds, it’s a chance to turn a good run into a defining one; for Bournemouth, it’s an opportunity to reassert themselves and keep distance from the chasing pack.
Leeds go into this with momentum and goals in the side, which usually counts for a lot — especially against a team in a similar bracket. Bournemouth at home won’t roll over, but Leeds look the more dangerous outfit right now, particularly with Okafor in form.
That said, Leeds haven’t always been the most reliable away from home, so it’s unlikely to be as comfortable as the Wolves game.
I’d expect Leeds to create more chances and edge it, but probably not without a nervy spell or two.
